Cabernet Sauvignon (66%) takes the lead on this Bordeaux-style blend, followed by Cabernet Franc (16%), Merlot (12%) and Malbec. Aromas of anise, dried herbs, dried cherries and tomato leaf are followed by lighter-styled medicinal flavors that linger.

This wine displays generous aromas of white pepper, woodspice, raspberry and cherry. The flavors are elegant with a peppery finish.

:Nota Bene 2011 Ciel du Cheval Red Blend Red Mountain $40 86 points 
A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, this offers aromas of raisinated cherries, herbs, bittersweet chocolate and a whiff of barnyard. Medicinal flavors are backed by chalky tannins.

:Nota Bene 2011 Dineen Vineyard Red Blend Yakima Valley $35 86 points 
This wine is 63% Cabernet Sauvignon and 37% Cabernet Franc. It shows aromas of green herbs, raisinated red fruit and raspberry. The cherry cola flavors are lighter in style, with a firm squeeze of tannins.

14 Hands 2012 Limited Release Kentucky Derby Red Blend Columbia Valley $12 90 points 
Comprised of 62% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 8% Syrah, this wine brings aromas of coffee, herbs and dark fruit. The fruit and barrel flavors are candy-bar sweet but still retain a sense of deftness. Best Buy

14 Hands 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley $12 87 points 
Lightly sweet blue fruit aromas and flavors mix with coffee, mocha, toast and herbs. It doesn’t seem entirely like Cabernet but it’s hard to ignore its appeal. Best Buy

3 Horse Ranch Vineyards 2011 Barrel Select Reserve Merlot Washington $21 89 points 
Aromas of sweet barrel spices, dried flowers, herbs and dark fruit lead to tart cherry flavors and a cranberry-filled finish.

Abeja 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley $45 93 points 
This wine is pulled from vineyards across the Columbia Valley, including Heather Hill, Bacchus, Dionysus, Ciel du Cheval and Destiny Ridge. A nuanced wine, it shows winemaker John Abbott in top form with its rich, layered fruit flavors, dazzling sense of texture and lengthy finish. It’s drinking beautifully but promises to have a long life in front of it in the cellar. Editor’s Choice

Abeja 2012 Merlot Columbia Valley $40 92 points 
Cocoa, dark chocolate, raspberry and barrel spice aromas intoxicate the senses. The flavors are sweet and concentrated with a hedonistic styling.

Abeja 2013 Chardonnay Washington $36 91 points 
A blend of top sites Celilo and Conner Lee, this appealing wine displays aromas of candy corn, corn silk and chamomile. The stone-fruit flavors are elegantly styled, showing a sense of restraint and balance that carries through the lingering finish. Editor’s Choice

Abeja 2014 Estate Grown Viognier Walla Walla Valley $30 90 points 
Walla Walla Valley-designated whites are a rarity. Here aromas of vanilla, toast, honeysuckle and peach show nuance and detail and lead to sweet, light bodied, lightly spritzy stone-fruit flavors with a long finish that commands attention.

Abeja 2011 Heather Hill Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Walla Walla Valley $55 89 points 
All varietal, this offers aromas of coffee, cherry, chocolate, oak spices and green herbs that show a touch of underripeness. The palate displays elegance, restraint and polish along with a tart finish.

Acre Twenty-one 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley $15 86 points 
The plum and blue fruit aromas and flavors don’t seem entirely varietal but this still offers plenty of appeal. It’s lightly sweet with a squeeze of tannins.

Acre Twenty-one 2013 Chardonnay Columbia Valley $15 84 points 
It would seem like other varieties must be in the mix on this perfumed wine with its notes of apricot, grapefruit and flowers. The flavors are lighter in style with a fresh feel.

Adamant Cellars 2012 Winemaker’s Select Merlot Walla Walla Valley $42 88 points 
All varietal coming from Dwelley and Minnick Hills vineyards, this wine leads with aromas of black licorice, dates and green herbs. There’s plenty of richness to the flavors, which are backed by a squeeze of grainy tannins.

Alder Ridge 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Horse Heaven Hills $30 91 points 
Aromas of dried herb, cherry cola and barrel spice are out in front on this 100% varietal wine. The cherry and blackberry flavors are sweet and plump, showing concentration and depth along with dry, grippy tannins.

Alleromb 2012 La Gran Flor Scarline Vineyard Red Blend Columbia Valley $80 94 points 
This wine is an unusual blend of 60% Malbec and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon. Aromas of tar, fresh dark plum, flowers and herbs lead to flavorful blue fruit and cherry notes. A sense of purity, texture and balance captures the attention. Give it plenty of time to open up.

Alleromb 2012 Cuvée B Red Blend Columbia Valley $40 93 points 
Holding 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot, this wine leads with inviting aromas of blackberries, dark cherries and tar, showing a fresh, fruit-forward profile. The dense fruit flavors deliver on all of this promise with layers of complexity, spot-on balance and good length.

Alleromb 2012 La Reyna Blanca Vineyard Chardonnay Columbia Valley $48 91 points 
Pleasing aromas of toast, nut oil and citrus are followed by textured, well-balanced stone-fruit flavors and a long, drawn-out finish. This is a thoroughly delicious, nuanced wine that keeps you coming back for more.

Alleromb 2011 Vineyard Collection Scarline Vineyard Malbec Columbia Valley $60 91 points 
The aromas of fresh herbs, tobacco and barrel spice seem quite locked-up at present on this dark purple-colored wine. The full-bodied dark fruit flavors and lightly chewy tannins show a mix of grace and power.

Alleromb 2011 Red Blend Columbia Valley $72 91 points 
Two-thirds Grenache and one-third Syrah, this wine has intriguing aromas of white pepper, earthy funk, garrigue and berry. It’s full bodied with the oak (33% new French) dialed back, putting the focus on the rich red and black fruit flavors.

Alleromb 2012 Cuvée R Red Blend Columbia Valley $40 91 points 
This wine is 60% Syrah and 40% Grenache. Jammy aromas of red and blue fruit are followed by a plush, flavorful palate that shows a pleasing sense of balance and length with a raspberry-filled finish.

Alleromb 2012 La Reyna Blanca Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc Columbia Valley $42 91 points 
Made in a full-bodied style, this wine possesses aromas and flavors of nut oil, lemongrass, citrus and herbs, with a rich texture and a finish that lingers.

Alleromb 2011 Scarline Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley $90 89 points 
High-toned aromas of dried herbs, cocoa, licorice, woodspice and blackberry lead to full-bodied yet elegantly styled black fruit flavors, with the tannins showing some grit.

Alleromb 2011 Scarline Vineyard Syrah Columbia Valley $90 88 points 
A brooding wine, this shows aromas of high-toned dark raspberries, woodspices, mineral and bay leaf, with the alcohol poking through. The red plum flavors are full bodied and rich, with grainy tannins backing them up.

Amavi 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Walla Walla Valley $32 90 points 
A blend of fruit from Les Collines, Octave, Seven Hills, Summit View, Pepper Bridge and Goff vineyards, this wine leads with aromas of dried herbs, violets, woodspice, coffee, plum and bittersweet chocolate. The cherry flavors combine richness and elegance, with grainy tannins and oak providing the frame.

Amavi 2013 Semillon Walla Walla Valley $23 89 points 
Coming from Les Collines (54%), Seven Hills (22%) and Goff vineyards, this wine saw only neutral French oak. Generous aromas of fig, freshly spun cotton and spice lead to lightly styled but rich tropical flavors that linger.

Amavi 2012 Syrah Walla Walla Valley $32 89 points 
This appealing wine provides aromas of blueberries, mulberry, herbs and cream. Flavors show concentration and intensity, with a touch of bitterness that runs throughout and provides some distraction.

Ancestry 2013 Reminiscence Riesling Columbia Gorge $18 89 points 
This wine is all from Underwood Mountain and shows perfumed aromas of grape skins, pear and apricot. It drinks medium sweet with abundant stone-fruit flavors.

Angel Vine 2012 The Hellion Red Blend Columbia Valley $24 90 points 
This blend of Primitivo (43%), Petite Sirah (28%) and Zinfandel offers aromas of blackberry jam, plum, dried fruit and baking spices. It’s full bodied and palate coating with high-octane fruit flavors that linger.

Angel Vine 2012 Zinfandel Columbia Valley $20 88 points 
There’s no question of the variety of this wine with its notes of raspberry jam, plum and herbs. It’s full bodied with a mixture of fruit and spice flavors, running hot on the finish.

Angel Vine 2012 Les Collines Vineyard Zinfandel Walla Walla Valley $24 87 points 
Aromas of tire rubber mix with herbs, red fruit, plum and allspice. Candied red fruit flavors are plump in feel, trailing on the finish.

Auclair 2014 Artz Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc Red Mountain $19 88 points 
After starting out reductive, this wine opens to reveal light aromas of fig and tropical fruit, seeming a bit muddled. The flavors, however, come through clearly, providing a textured feel.

Barnard Griffin 2013 Albariño Columbia Valley $18 87 points 
Bright aromas of tangerine, cantaloupe and pear lead to just off-dry notes of tropical fruit and spritzy soda-water flavors. It goes down easy.

Barnard Griffin 2014 Fumé Blanc Dry Sauvignon Blanc Columbia Valley $9 86 points 
A mix of Sauvignon Blanc (77%) and Sémillon, this wine comes from three separate vineyards in the Columbia Valley. It shows plenty of Sauvignon’s herbal character while also displaying the ripeness of the vintage, with lightly spritzy tropical fruit and fig flavors that possess a fleshy feel. Best Buy

Barnard Griffin NV Blend 31 Cabernet Merlot Columbia Valley $14 84 points 
Herb, medicine cabinet, leather and dried cherry aromas precede an unusual mixture of sweet and tangy flavors. It all creates a somewhat uneasy mix in the glass.

Barnard Griffin 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Gorge $17 84 points 
Despite its youth, this wine seems dried-out with aromas and flavors of medicine cabinet, leather and raisinated black and blue fruit. Drink now.

Barons 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Red Mountain $65 88 points 
Oak takes the lead on this wine. Aromas of dill, black licorice and woodspice are followed by baking spices and dried dark fruit. It’s dry and chalky in feel with dark fruit flavors.

Betz Family 2012 Père de Famille Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley $72 95 points 
This arresting wine delivers aromas of fresh-ground coffee, sweet spices, licorice, dark fruit, pencil box, bay leaf, black currant and smoke, showing so much nuance you want to just keep on sniffing. The palate brings inky, dense, seamless dark fruit flavors and beautifully integrated tannins. It’s completely irresistible now—a flat out stunner—but promises to have a long life in the cellar. Editor’s Choice

Betz Family 2012 Clos de Betz Red Blend Columbia Valley $57 94 points 
Just over two-thirds Merlot with the rest Cabernet Sauvignon and a pinch of Petit Verdot, this thoroughly delicious wine opens with a complex assortment of aromas, including incense, toast, crushed flowers, spice, bay leaf, licorice and red and black fruit. The palate is deft but brings waves of layered fruit flavors that show great density and richness. It’s hedonistic but doesn’t sacrifice one iota of balance. It drinks best at 62 degrees. Editor’s Choice

Boomtown 2013 Syrah Columbia Valley $19 87 points 
The plush-feeling plum and blue fruit flavors provide much of the appeal on this pleasant, easy-drinking wine. Aromas of tar and berry provide accents.

Boudreaux Cellars 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Washington $60 88 points 
This blend is largely from Bacchus, Seven Hills and Wallula vineyards. It offers aromas of fresh herbs, thyme, dry chocolate, cherry and medicine cabinet. The flavors are quite sweet, with dry, chalky tannins backing them up.

Boudreaux Cellars 2009 Merlot Washington $50 88 points 
Medicine cabinet, licorice, leather and dried and fresh red and black fruit aromas lead to rich, concentrated flavors. The variety seems subsumed by the style but it’s still pretty delicious.

Boudreaux Cellars 2011 Wallula Vineyard Syrah Horse Heaven Hills $60 87 points 
This unusual wine offers aromas of nori, dried flowers, bittersweet chocolate and cherry cola. It’s full flavored with a lightly tacky feel.

Browne Family Vineyards 2012 Malbec Columbia Valley $35 91 points 
This 100% varietal wine blends fruit from Summit View and Canyon Vineyard Ranch vineyards. Aromas of plum, fresh herb and woodspice are followed by plump blue and black fruit flavors and a tart lick of acid.

Browne Family Vineyards 2012 Cabernet Franc Columbia Valley $35 90 points 
This blends fruit from Force Majeure, Blackrock and Alder Ridge vineyards. Aromas of crushed rock, dried leaves, cherry and barrel spices lead to sweet cherry and chocolate flavors. The oak (58% new French) plays a big part but it works.

Browne Family Vineyards 2012 Merlot Columbia Valley $35 89 points 
This 100% varietal wine comes from Mirage, Klipsun, Seven Hills and Force Majeure vineyards. The oak (50% new French) takes the lead with aromas of vanilla, coffee and cinnamon in front of plum and berry. Flavors are reserved, showing a mixture of fruit and barrel that continues through the finish.

Browne Family Vineyards 2014 Sauvignon Blanc Columbia Valley $18 88 points 
A new wine for this winery, this is all varietal and aged in neutral French oak. Notes of pineapple and papaya are followed by full-bodied, rounded, sweet tropical flavors that linger.

Bunchgrass 2012 Merlot Walla Walla Valley $35 92 points 
All varietal coming from Seven Hills Vineyard, this displays aromas of café au lait, black raspberries and dried herbs. The fruit and barrel flavors are palate coating, displaying exceptional polish and texture.

Bunchgrass 2012 The Bard Red Blend Walla Walla Valley $30 92 points 
A blend of Grenache, Syrah and Malbec, this lightly colored wine offers aromas of wild strawberries, coffee, tobacco and incense, showing pleasing purity and nuance. It’s light yet palate coating, possessing a mesmerizing texture along with an assortment of fruit and savory flavors.

Bunchgrass 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon Horse Heaven Hills $45 91 points 
This wine is all varietal from up-and-coming Phinny Hill Vineyard. Aromas of earth, herbs, dark cherry and bittersweet chocolate lead to supple, elegant, focused cherry and herb flavors that are framed by lively acidity. Put it on the dinner table to see it shine.

Bunchgrass 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon Walla Walla Valley $45 90 points 
This 100% varietal wine displays aromas of coffee, pipe tobacco and spice. The dark fruit and espresso flavors show a mixture of elegance and richness, with a textured mouthfeel providing appeal. It’s a high-quality example from this cool vintage.

Bunchgrass 2012 Malbec Walla Walla Valley $35 89 points 
Varietal bottles of Malbec are an extreme rarity in this appellation. This one, which hails from Frazier Bluff Vineyard, offers light aromas of dried herbs, plum, pepper and tobacco. The blue fruit flavors are sweet and lithe, with the texture upping the enjoyment.

This wine is 55% Cabernet Franc and 45% Merlot. Light aromas of herbs, tobacco, flowers and cherries lead to sweet, elegantly styled fruit flavors. It’s a well-made wine from a challenging vintage.

Bunchgrass 2011 Triolet Red Blend Walla Walla Valley $30 88 points 
Comprised of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot, this wine shows aromas of herbs, pencil lead, flowers and cherry, with light meaty notes. There’s a elegance to the plum and cherry flavors along with a supple feel.

Bunchgrass 2013 Sémillon Walla Walla Valley $26 88 points 
This is a 100% varietal wine coming from Birch Creek Vineyard. The barrel fermentation shows with aromas of butterscotch melding with fig, lees and beeswax. The stone and tropical fruit flavors are plenty rich and stick around on the finish.

Buried Cane 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley $14 85 points 
Aromatic for Cabernet, this wine possesses notes of black currant, green pepper, blackberry and herbs. It drinks slightly off dry, offering lighter flavors with a tangy feel and chalky tannins.

Cana's Feast 2012 Mountain Cuvée Red Blend Columbia Valley $55 92 points 
Though not labeled as such, this is truly a Red Mountain wine with all of the fruit coming from Ciel du Cheval and Taptiel vineyards. A blend of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot, it shows a mixture of fruit and barrel. Flavors of herbs, plum, oak spices and black currant offer impressive density and finish with a tart lick of acidity.

Cana's Feast 2012 Joie de Vivre Red Blend Columbia Valley $30 88 points 
Syrah (55%) along with a dollop of seldom-seen Counoise (28%) makes up the majority of this wine, with the rest Grenache and Mourvèdre. It’s aromatically quite reserved, with notes of blue fruit, dried herb and baking spice. The palate is full with concentrated plum and berry flavors, finishing a bit short.

Cana's Feast 2012 Ciel du Cheval Vineyard Sangiovese Grosso Columbia Valley $45 87 points 
Coming from one of the state’s most esteemed vineyards, this wine offers aromas of assorted dried herbs, tobacco and glue. The cherry, herb and plum flavors have good depth, with the tannins providing some heft.

Cana's Feast 2013 Northridge Vineyard Primitivo Columbia Valley $30 86 points 
This wine doesn’t seem to have fully ripened, with green, reedy aromas along with notes of cranberry and cherry Jolly Rancher. The full-bodied palate delivers more but seems disconnected with tart, tangy cranberry flavors.

Cana's Feast 2012 Sangiovese Columbia Valley $30 85 points 
Dried herb, tobacco, plum and woodspice aromas are followed by tart cranberry and cherry flavors that have a lick of dry tannins behind them. There’s plenty of interest but this wine needs food to combat the tannins.

Cavatappi 2012 San Pietro Tuscan Style Red Blend Columbia Valley $23 91 points 
A blend of Sangiovese (38%), Merlot (31%) and Cabernet Sauvignon, this wine displays each in turn with aromas and flavors of dried herbs, coffee, tobacco and cherry. The style is reserved, with plenty of fruit and acid but subtle oak—perfect for the dinner table. Editor’s Choice

Cavatappi 2008 Maddelena Nebbiolo Columbia Valley $26 87 points 
This wine offers aromas of leather, maraschino cherries, rose petal and medicine cabinet. It shows a bit of its age but still has time, with grainy tannins and soy flavors propping it up.

Cayuse 2012 God Only Knows Grenache Walla Walla Valley $90 96 points 
It takes some time to open up but when it does, this wine reveals perfumed aromas of potpourri, green olive, savory spices, peat, pepper and mineral. The palate is equal parts light and dense with almost chewy, savory flavors that won’t quit.

Cayuse 2012 Bionic Frog Syrah Walla Walla Valley $95 96 points 
Aromas of dried herbs, green olive, grilled asparagus and smoke lead to intensely concentrated savory flavors with a flat-out dazzling mouthfeel. It’s a knockout that overloads the senses.

Cayuse 2012 En Chamberlain Vineyard Syrah Walla Walla Valley $75 95 points 
Aromatically this wine is not yet entirely ready to reveal its charms, with reserved notes of mineral, smoked meat, olive brine, fire pit, peat and crushed flowers. The generous earth and savory flavors feel rich and full, leading to a lengthy finish.

Cayuse 2012 Armada Vineyard Syrah Walla Walla Valley $90 95 points 
This wine displays a broader fruit profile than The Rocks is often known for, with aromas of plum leading to crushed rock, cracked pepper, olive, herbs and smoked meat. The texture is captivating, both elegant in its styling yet rich, commanding attention with floral notes on the finish.

Cayuse 2012 En Cerise Vineyard Syrah Walla Walla Valley $80 94 points 
Aromas of green olive, grilled asparagus, moist peat, mineral and coffee meld with earthy funk. The smoke and savory flavors are lithe yet concentrated, lingering on the finish.

Cayuse 2012 Cailloux Vineyard Syrah Walla Walla Valley $80 94 points 
Light in color, this über aromatic wine conveys flowers, black and green olive, mineral, peat and smoke. The palate is all about elegance of expression and texture, with smoked meat and coffee flavors that linger.

Cayuse 2012 Camespelo Red Blend Walla Walla Valley $75 93 points 
There’s no other area this blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (84%) and Merlot could come from than The Rocks. Wafting aromas of earth, mineral, green leaves and funk accent the variety’s dried herb. It’s soft in feel with elegant tannins and abundant savory flavors, simultaneously distinctive and delicious.

Cayuse 2012 Flying Pig Red Blend Walla Walla Valley $90 92 points 
Merlot (48%) blends with Cabernet Franc (40%) and Cabernet Sauvigon on this earth-laden wine. Aromas of funk, earth, peat, savory herbs and dark flowers lead to soft, sweet, smoky flavors. The texture and richness keep the interest high.

Cayuse 2012 Widowmaker En Chamberlain Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Walla Walla Valley $90 91 points 
Brooding aromas of fresh and dried herbs mix with freshly tilled soil, tomato leaf, coffee, mineral and spice box. It’s restrained in style with supple smoke, herb and cherry flavors backed by soft tannins.

Cayuse 2012 The Lovers Cabernet Sauvignon-Syrah Walla Walla Valley $90 91 points 
This wine rises up from the glass with an earthy funk, dried herbs, black pepper, cherry, smoke and mineral, showing complexities and detail. The palate is restrained yet rich, with savory flavors that linger.

Cayuse 2013 Edith Grenache Armada Vineyard Rosé Walla Walla Valley $45 90 points 
Pale copper colored, this wine is more focused on mineral than fruit expression, with aromas of wet stone out in front of citrus rind. The medium-bodied flavors dance lightly on the palate but still show concentration, texture and balance.

Cayuse 2013 Cailloux Vineyard Viognier Walla Walla Valley $70 90 points 
Light aromas of wet stone, smoke, stone fruit and white flowers lead to ethereally light yet sweet and flavorful peach notes. It’s a very pretty and compelling expression of the variety.

Charles & Charles 2014 Rosé Columbia Valley $12 86 points 
A blend of six different varieties with Syrah (72%) in the lead, this pale cherry-color wine pops with aromas of bubble gum, wild strawberry and orange peel. The concentration is a bit light with the tart finish that pulls it together.

Chateau Ste. Michelle 2013 Ethos Reserve Late Harvest Riesling Columbia Valley $40 91 points 
At 160g/L residual sugar, this late-harvest wine brings plenty of sweetness with its lightly spritzy marmalade, orange peel and pear aromas and flavors, yet it still retains an appealing sense of lightness and balance as well. The length is impressive.

Chateau Ste. Michelle 2014 Pinot Gris Columbia Valley $11 86 points 
This aromatically appealing wine boasts aromas of melon, pear and spice. It drinks dry and is lightly spritzy, with a sleek feel and a tart finish that shows pleasing freshness. Try it with shellfish. Best Buy

Chester Kidder 2011 Red Blend Columbia Valley $50 92 points 
A blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Syrah and 7% Petit Verdot, this wine saw 30 months in barrel. Aromas of blackberry, licorice, herb, dark coffee and earth are primary and lead to full-bodied flavors that persist on the finish.

Columbia Crest 2012 Reserve Coyote Canyon Vineyard Red Blend Horse Heaven Hills $35 92 points 
Smelling like a fresh bowl of fruit, this blend of co-fermented Syrah (73%), Grenache (20%) and Viognier provides pure aromas of blueberries, raspberries, smoked meat, fresh flowers and orange peel. Woodward Canyon 2012 Merlot Columbia Valley $52 92 points 
This wine is all Merlot coming from equal parts Weinbau and Woodward Canyon Estate vineyards. It charms with aromas of café au lait, cherry, spice and earth. The chocolate and cherry flavors are rich and full bodied with a firm handshake of tannins. It’s drinking young now, with the oak up front. Give it plenty of time to open up.

Woodward Canyon 2013 Estate Chardonnay Walla Walla Valley $66 91 points 
This wine comes from some of the oldest vines in the valley, planted in 1977. Aromas of pear, hay and hazelnut lead to stone-fruit and butterscotch flavors that are light and elegant in style with a very pretty sense of balance.
